About Osaka's

Owner Koji Tamura’s journey began more than five decades ago.
While studying engineering in Los Angeles in 1972, Koji was once asked by classmates to cook authentic Japanese food. One evening, he prepared okonomiyaki, a beloved savory pancake
from Osaka. The enthusiastic response made him realize that while sushi and ramen were becoming well known abroad, true Japanese comfort food like okonomiyaki was still largely
undiscovered.
Together with his wife, Mari, Koji reimagined this traditional dish in a more casual, approachable style, creating what became known as the Osaka Burger.
In 2014, Mari opened a small shop in Japan to test the concept, and it was an immediate success. After Koji retired from a 42-year career, Mari, Koji, and two chefs from Osaka moved to
Colorado and opened Osaka’s in Boulder in November 2018. Why Colorado? If you would like to know, please ask Koji when you visit Osaka’s.
Today, Osaka’s serves okonomiyaki, the Osaka Burger, and a variety of authentic Japanese dishes, sharing the warmth and flavors of Osaka-style home cooking.
(Please note: Due to kitchen capacity and operations, the Osaka Burger is available on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays only.)
